My first real issue stems from the controls. Is it be good enough to satisfy younger, less picky fans? Possibly, but after playing the browser-based version, I hoped that the mobile version would somehow feel smoother and more natural. The game is very active, even during odd times of the day, and the chat is filled with players discussing the finer points of being a viking. I was impressed by the game's visuals even though they are fairly primitive, as they do a good job of giving a sense of scale and accurately recreate many of the movie's characters. I didn't have much experience with the browser-based version, so I read up on Karen's MMO Family article, made an account, and logged in. Unfortunately, I am not able to play on my favorite tablet yet (my Android), but I was able to download it on my wife's iPad Air. He became my adviser for my honors thesis, which was about a specific chapter of Ulysses he was a very influential, very brilliant, very kind professor. The biggest standout was taking a class with John Bishop, who specialized in James Joyce. Which classes or professors stand out from your time at Berkeley? I feel incredibly lucky in working with such talented authors. Another example: I worked with Rachel Kushner, who is a Berkeley alum and an astoundingly good writer. He's an amazing author and a wonderful person. I would meet him for tea, and that just felt incredible every time. For instance, I was working with Philip Pullman and there was a period of time where I was going to visit him every summer in Oxford. The work that I've done has brought me into close relationships with authors I greatly admire. Are there any particular vignettes that you might want to share from your current or recent work? The breadth of what I've read in the past really informs my ability to evaluate written works and place them in the context of what else is out there. My work has always been in evaluating written material, so I use what I learned at Berkeley every day. How do you use your training in the humanities in your current work? And Cindy Spiegel is a Berkeley grad, too, with a master's in Comp Lit! They had expansive ideas about publishing, which involved including film and television in some way, so together we formed this model of what a publishing house could be in the modern age. I was aware of their reputations before I met with them, because they are two of the most revered editors in New York. When I met Cindy Spiegel and Julie Grau a few years later, we immediately hit it off. Our agency, RWSG, had an amazing run for 16 years before selling to WME in 2016.Īfter that sale, I missed working with authors. When we realized our backgrounds were so similar, we started talking about creating an agency together. She had been a lawyer too, and she was working as a co-agent - a literary agent that represents authors to help works transition from the page to film or television. Then when I was ready to start thinking about my next phase, I met for coffee with an acquaintance, Sylvie Rabineau. They did, so I got involved in starting this independent bookstore in Pacific Palisades. I was walking with my son in a stroller, I saw a sign in a storefront announcing a soon-to-open bookstore, and I decided I would go in and see if they needed anyone to work there. I was looking for ways to work in book publishing or as an editor, but there aren't many publishing houses in California, and I also had small children at the time. Soon after that, life with my family took me back to California. After about two years I decided to go back into the book world, and I had a short stint as an editor at a small publishing company in New York. That was a great experience, but I knew early on that it wasn't my permanent career path. So I went to law school, graduated, and worked at a law firm in New York. But when I graduated, I wasn't knowledgeable about publishing or other areas that I could have pursued. I was an English major at Berkeley and I loved it. Could you describe some of the steps along the way to your current role? This interview has been edited for length and clarity. We spoke to her about her career trajectory, why she supports Berkeley, and why the world needs more English majors. The Wachters are Builders of Berkeley, with generous gifts to the English department, BAMPFA, and the Arts + Design Initiative. Wachter currently serves on the Advisory Board for the College of Letters and Science as well as the boards of The Paris Review and the Human Rights Watch California Committee. Wachter co-founded RWSG, a premier book-to-film agency that specialized in the representation of dramatic rights. Liza Wachter (English '81) is president, partner, and director of film and television for Spiegel and Grau, an independent publishing house launched in 2020. Definitely not a weapon I would recommend to wield when you're seconds away from victory. Whenever I'd fire the weapon's sights would waiver around for a few seconds, forcing me to wait for the shot to realign. However, I found the recoil a little obnoxious. This pistol holds eight rounds and serves as a reliable sidearm when you're in a pinch. I found this weapon the most often during my time in Cuisine Royale. I've taken out a few players whom I got the drop on with this gun. You can fire off the weapon's magazine of eight bullets as quickly as you can click your mouse button and the recoil of the weapon was barely noticeable. When my main weapons were low on ammo, I was always thankful I picked up the Luger during my travels. You get used to it after a little practice. You'll find the recoil of this weapon a little difficult to keep up with, at first. You can load up a magazine with up to 50 bullets, but make sure you find a good position to kneel down and fire. Though not the most accurate weapon in Cuisine Royale, you can certainly ensure your foes feel every bullet with this weapon. This mobile machine gun turns you into a walking guard post. If you watch your ammo and see how many shots you fire, you can probably walk away from most encounters only ever firing 30 shots. This makes it ideal for holding down the fire button and waiting until all of your bullets are gone to see if your enemy is still standing. With this submachine gun with a drum of bullets capable of holding more than 70 rounds in a single magazine. PPD 40īecause you're not the best shot, you want to use as many bullets as possible to eliminate the competition. Definitely good a weapon if you already have a decent submachine gun or a sniper rifle in your other primary weapon slot. Though, you'll leave yourself unprepared should someone find you while you're reloading. You can fire off the five rounds from this weapon pretty quickly and make short work of your foes. When you find yourself hiding in the brush and waiting to ambush your enemy, there's no better way to surprise than hitting them with an automatic shotgun. You'll want to make sure every shot counts because the weapon can only hold 5 rounds per magazine. If you don't find a scope during your match, you can still use the weapon's standard iron sights. The Springfield is an excellent medium to long range sniper rifle, however, you will need to locate a scope for it. Because Cuisine Royale is set somewhere during World War 2, it's difficult to imagine this game not having it. You may recognize the Springfield from the earlier Call of Duty games. The rifle's magazine only contains 20 rounds at a time, but it makes short work of any foolish enough to try and close the distance. It's an automatic rifle designed to mow down your enemies a medium or short range away. You can carry up to four different kinds of weapons: two primary, one secondary, and one melee weapon. Because this is a battle royale game, you need to know which of the weapons and equipment you come across are the best so you can succeed in every match! plus all the extra skills you can get can fundamentally change a class just by following one star over the other.Ħ: This one is give or take. yes its carbon copy but the system and the intertwined devotions with skills really makes it fun. It matches the era they are trying to portray and sits just as well as Matt Uelmen's works did in D2.ĥ: Classes and devotions create new possibilities for advanced play TQ didnt really have. especially the animations, they are so much more natural, physics respond a little better too.Ĥ: Steve Pardo did the music, there are more original tracks over combo track cut us as Diablo 2 and the thematic elements hit home for me. This is why I said its like Diablo 2 in the world of Titans Quest because that's what it is.ģ: lighting, animations, shadows, textures, AA options and post processing set it apart. The only change is the settings the regions and design of each location. Even the quests lore and movement though the game is the same. Enemies were randomized in location like TQ which gave the illusion of newness.Ģ: it has everything to do with Titans Quest, the entire world and skill system is a mirror image. I'm ignore the random world because it doesn't matter as point 2 clarifies that. Thats Diablo 2, each act had corresponding areas or sets with lore attached to each location. 1: You have a world that has defined borders dressed as sets with corresponding quests and lore. Above are just a few things which I simply cannot agree with. IdbeholdME: I just have to dispute some of this. The lack of full voice acting (at least the important characters) is also bothering me much more than I thought it would (after having experienced Titan Quest where every single NPC you can talk to is fully voiced). While I was on an epic quest in TQ, I actually feel bored at times in GD. This never happened to me in Titan Quest.Ĭlass system is literally the same as in Titan Quest. I play GD with music off most of the time because I don't remember a single memorable track from it and just play my own music underneath it. It is nowhere near the epicness of the TQ soundtrack or the darkness of the Diablo soundtrack. There is actually not a drastic difference in graphics between TQ and GD. The engine is the same as in TQ (2006), it is just more polished. I would hold your horses on "far better graphics". The world has nothing at all to do with Titan Quest. I've collected enough in game to give me a solid :30 minutes worth of reading and research and I'm not even half way though. The story is really good too if you care enough to quest and learn about the LORE. Starkrun: Its basically Diablo 2 in the world of Titans Quest with far better graphics, classes, music, sounds, and animation. Its basically Diablo 2 in the world of Titans Quest with far better graphics, classes, music, sounds, and animation. And an endurance dungeon challenge thingy. With the new DLC it opens up even more stuff to do. 3 extra deep crazy dungeons, a secret boss on each difficulty hidden quests and quest lines. The quests are plentiful, the world fill is endless with random enemy spawns each load, endless rando dungeon (now), 4-5 story arcs, random weapons, so many sets and set modifications and creation. Who ever said its short must have not played or liked the game.Īs for content, the class system is only rivaled by Path of Exile. if you get really lucky on all drops and plan your build perfectly. An absolute minimum if you rush the entire game you're looking at 40 hours for the core. For those wishing to feel the wrath of angry bovines, the Cow level is also included.įinally, there is something new in the secret uber boss areas that include “one shot” chests, which drop a guaranteed unique or set item, once per difficulty.I read complaints on the Steam forum about the lack of content and the short gametime. The event is a difficult gauntlet of some of the most challenging bosses in the game, and required a connection to the servers in the original game, which was not something everyone had access to in 2000. There are also instantly recognizable Unique and Set items, Runes and Runewords that can be crafted via the Horadric Cube, Rainbow Facets, and new weapons types in the form of bows, spears, and wands.Īn unexpected inclusion is a fully working Pandemonium event with keys dropping from The Countess, Summoner, and Izual on Hell Difficulty. The classes of Amazon, Assassin, Barbarian, Druid, Necromancer, Paladin, and Sorceress are available with all skills from Diablo 2 scaling to level 60. Apart from having Acts I-IV completed, there are a number of other features included in the mod. Searching is tedious and has to be refilled from time to time. She was the voice of Mickey’s leading lady, Minnie Mouse. It was thanks to Mickey, in fact, that Allwine met his wife, Russi Taylor. So, in 1946, he handed the voice over to Jimmy MacDonald, a veteran Disney musician and actor.įollowing Jimmy’s 31-year gig, he too gave up Mickey, handing the job over to Wayne Anthony Allwine, who voiced Mickey until his death in 2009. Walt took great pride in being the original voice beginning in 1929 with the short film, Karnival Kid, where his only line was “Hot dog, hot dog.” With the Disney franchise rapidly growing, Walt soon became far too busy to continue playing the icon. Walt was the original voice of Mickey Mouse.īelieve It or Not!, Mickey Mouse’s famous falsetto voice we know and love today was actually that of Walt himself. Ub brought new innovations to animation that are still used today in film and even attractions located at Walt Disney World. Instead of taking his old seat as an animator, Ub worked on developing special visual effects and technologies that would later be used in films like Mary Poppins, Song of the South, and many other classic movies. Eventually, in 1940, Iwerks Studio went under, and Ub returned to Disney. To no surprise, though Ub was an extremely talented animator, the company struggled to compete with Walt Disney Studios. Feeling used and underappreciated for his role at Disney’s studio, he no longer wanted to work with Walt. According to one report, after regaling in his invention of Mickey, and passing on the job to Ub, Ub Iwerks left Disney to start his own animation company. Once, at a child’s birthday party in Hollywood, Walt was asked to draw a picture of Mickey Mouse on a napkin for the birthday girl. While Ub and Walt were meant to be partners, it wasn’t often that Ub was granted the credit for Mickey that he deserved. As the first two Mickey Mouse short films were produced in silence, the exploration of synchronized sound was a milestone for future animated films everywhere, beginning with the iconic short, Steamboat Willy. That week alone, he created 600/700 frames per day and discovered the idea of synchronized sound- playing music and sound effects in time with the hand-drawn animations. Ub thought of Mickey Mouse, a fresh and new style of character from those of Universal, while trying to come up with new ideas to get the studio rolling. When Walt and his brother, Roy, created Disney Brothers Productions- later changed to Walt Disney Studios-they invited Ub out West to be a part of the company. Ub and Walt became friends in 1919, where they worked together for many years while job hopping throughout the world of production. Many people believe that Walt Disney, himself, created and drew the iconic, Mickey Mouse, but the original creator and artist went by the name, Ubbe Eert “Ub” Iwerks.
